Why Is 2017 The Year For Snapchat Stories?

Are you on Snapchat?

If you already have a personal account, that’s great! But have you thought about getting your business on Snapchat too?

2017 is the year to consider creating a Snapchat account for your business or brand. Hear me out, this app can humanise your brand like no other.

Let’s take a look at how brands can benefit from this fun app.

What makes 2017 the year of Snapchat?

Snapchat first came into the social media scene back in 2012. It wasn’t exactly the user-friendliest app ever, so needless to say few people gave it a try.

This was up until recently when Snapchat added a few interesting features that made people – and even brands this time – curious to give it another try.

In other words, the new (well, not so new anymore) Story feature was the one that saved Snapchat from its demise.

Fast forward to today. Snapchat videos have 10 billion views every day and 100 million active users each month. Way ahead Facebook (with about 8 million views daily) with their reach.

Are you ready to give Snapchat one more try?

Snapchat for dummies

It’s no secret that Snapchat is not what you would call a user-friendly app. Don’t let it intimidate you, though.

I’m going to share with you some useful tips and instructions for all Snapchat beginners out there. Get your smartphone out of your pocket and let’s get started…

Gone are the days when people used Snapchat only for sharing a photo or a message that auto-destructed after being viewed. Snapchat Stories offers users and brands the possibility to post engaging content that will last for 24 hours.

With the launch of Discover, they dodged a bullet with brands and businesses. Discover basically offers professionals the opportunity to feature their own editorial content on Snapchat.

The Discover page features a Pinterest-style grid of tiles which offers such a friendly look. So, instead of having to dig your favourite Discover channels out of a whole list, you can tap-and-hold to subscribe to them. Once you subscribe, they will appear amongst the Recent Stories from accounts you’ve added.

How to get your brand on Snapchat

The reason why Snapchat can be a valuable resource for brands is its target audience. It used to consist mostly of teenagers. But marketing reports now show a huge increase in users over the age of 25. Snapchat users are mostly teens, millennials and college students.

So how can you use your Snapchat account as a leverage for your brand?

  • Sponsor an influencer or a celebrity

You must have a favourite influencer in your line of business, or maybe a celebrity. Get in touch with them.

Connect and collaborate with an influencer or celebrity for a series of engaging videos. Agree on how your brand will appear in those Snapchat stories you create. Go for something outside the box!

Tip: One of the most common types of sponsorships goes like this: you get a popular personality (influencer, celebrity) to attend an event and find an organic way to feature and promote your brand. Those tens of thousands of views will get your brand the reach it needs.

  • Sponsor a story

Our Stories is a Snapchat channel where they provide longer, local streams. National and global streams are also available at times.

Here, brands can purchase an ad space on Our Stories channels. This way, they are letting their submissions appear in the collection with other users’ submissions.

  • Share quality content

Get ready to share your own snaps! Snapchat is a friendly app, so don’t make it seem too polished, keep your content authentic and friendly.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different types and styles of content. Think about appealing to one follower at a time.

  • Extend your reach even more

Snapchat Discover is a paid feature that offers brands the opportunity to expand their horizons by posting branded content for a larger audience.

These strategies should get you covered for creating an efficient social media planning for your Snapchat adventure.

However, here are a few more tips you can consider to avoid any beginner mistakes.

Snapchat like a pro
  • Choose your Snapchat ID wisely. Make it intuitive and simple, otherwise users won’t get an exact match on your account.
  • Snapchat is no place for picture-perfect. Snapchat is a friendly social media platform that encourages authenticity. Keep your content real, this is not the place to go for perfect.
  • Get creative with your stories. Let your creative juices flow when creating a story. Great content it’s what turns users into followers.
  • Don’t go for subliminal messages. Avoid using subliminal logo placements or products. Get your sponsorship relationships out in the open. Be authentic rather than manipulative.
  • Have fun! Stories are adventures. Don’t be afraid to be creative and experiment.
