The folks live about 200k’s up the pacific highway and inland, in a little place called Dungog. Dungog is a beautiful part of the world. Famous for their film festival and more recently devastating floods. I love going up for the weekend or mid week. We have about 8 acres there which is not very big but big enough. I love going up there are getting ready to mow. There is just something very cathartic about mowing a lawn, it’s a zen moment. There you are planning the task. You begin and suddenly you see your results immediately. Now depending on your style and you planning you either go round in circles meticulously lining up the the previous pass so that you do overlap the lines and be the most efficient use of your time. You can start to meditate and “be” in the moment. A sheer focus on what you are doing overwhelms every muscle in the body. There is a natural cohesion between mind, body, spirit and tractor. Apart from riding a motor bike on a long journey it would have to be one of the things that really helps me mentally sail away.
Sailing away yet achieving, an overwhelming sense of achievement because I can see the results immediately.
Now on the farm we have a tractor and a slasher (a big thing hooked up to the back that cuts the grass) but we also have a ride on and a push mower. There are 8 acres to mow which are roughly put into three paddocks. The first 2 paddocks are about 2 acres all up with the final one being 5.
