Here are the main types of personal insurance and the things they provide coverage for.
Car Insurance
There are different types of car insurance available, which makes it a very flexible type of insurance: you can choose the right level of cover for your needs. There is a basic coverage provided by all types of car insurance policies, but you can choose it to cover from loss, damage, theft or attempted theft, malicious damage or storm damage and more.
Home and Contents Insurance
This insurance protects your home and home belongings from a wide range of unexpected events. It can also include new-for-old replacement of your contents. There are three main types of home insurance policies, depending on the types of properties you own.
Underinsurance
If you already have a standard home insurance, you may want to revise it – especially if you have had the same policy for years. It is easy to forget how your property’s value can increase or how your possessions can accumulate.
When you take out your home insurance you need to make sure you first calculate the full replacement value of your house and its contents, then choose the home and contents insurance that best suits your current insurance needs.

Landlord Insurance
If you own a property that you lend to tenants then you need to consider landlord insurance. It protects your investment property against the damage that tenants might cause, as well as against loss of rental income. They are just like a standard home insurance, covering for floods and storm damage – for example – but come with the added benefit of being customised specifically to properties where tenants live.
Residential Strata Insurance
Residential Strata Insurance is for owners of residential buildings that are under a strata, group, body corporate or community title arrangement. It covers you for legal liability if someone injures themselves on your premises, and can give you the option to cover accidental damage to the building and common contents.
Boat Insurance
In Australia, a lot of the people who live close to the ocean have boats. Just like any other vehicle or property, boats can also be insured – and should be. Boat insurance can protect against accidents in and out of the water:
Basic boat insurance that covers legal costs if you cause death or injury to another person, or your boat causes the loss or damage of their property.
Comprehensive boat insurance that covers the same events as basic boat insurance, but adds loss or damage to your boat.
Caravan and Trailer Insurance
Caravan and Trailer Insurance protects your caravan or trailer from being damaged or stolen – whether you’re on the road, or it’s just parked in the driveway at home.
Travel Insurance
The travel insurance is designed to cover for a broad range of claimable events. It is recommended if you travel on holiday or for business (or both) and includes travelling for sporting events. In this insurance are included the following: overseas hospitalisation, medical and emergency dental expenses, lost or stolen cash, as well as personal effects.
