Her name is Jean Wen. She is our ‘Shuriken Numbers Magician’.
Don’t let the word “magician” fool you. Number crunching is serious business, but Jean makes it seem like a magician’s act. She is definitely a pro!
She’s worked in accounting for over 15 years prior to launching her career at Shuriken Consulting. Her extensive work experience as a tax accountant has helped her grow tremendously.
“I’ve learned a lot from my professional experience,” Jean highlights. “It’s not only easier for me now to connect with clients, but I’ve also discovered along the way how to offer my clients personalised solutions and strategies for their tax issues.”
Jean is also specialised in dealing with individual investors and small business, as well as lodging prior year tax returns with minimum hassle.

“I love so many things about my job! I especially love all the complicated ‘puzzles’ I have to deal with on a daily basis.”
While others might be put off by complicated accounting problems, Jean sees them as “intriguing puzzles”. She just loves a good challenge!
At the end of the day, Jean concludes that, ”I can be proud of my work. It’s a job that matters to me because I get to help people improve their lives every day.”
She is a talented professional and an amazing person! We are fortunate and proud to have her in our team. People like her make our team one of a kind.
The best thing is that the feeling seems to be mutual. As Jean points out, “I love working with people who truly care about the company. It’s so hard nowadays to find a work environment focused on honesty, hard work and integrity! Fortunately, I found that environment at Shuriken.”
Accounting isn’t an all-consuming career. That’s another thing Jean loves about her job. Keeping a healthy balance between her personal and professional life is what helps Jean stay balanced, healthy and motivated. It’s the secret to a happy and fulfilled life.

Jean has two golden nuggets of advice:
- You know those online tax programs? It might seem like they can meet your accounting needs, but they also miss out on a much bigger refund you might be entitled to receive. Is it worth it?
- Keep all your records! This is the holy grail of tax returns.

Hobbies and little-known facts about an accountant like Jean
Jean loves to travel. She’s always up for an adventure!
She’s also a foodie. She loves to eat, but she loves to cook even more. Cooking is her way to unwind and enjoy food at a whole new level. “My husband, on the other hand, is the opposite. Eating is his favourite thing in the world!” Jean adds.
There are a few quirky things not a lot of people know about Jean. For example, she doesn’t like to wear makeup. She considers that, “Makeup has the opposite effect on me, wearing it makes me feel insecure. I like my natural look better.”
Another interesting fact about Jean is that she only wears flat shoes. “Wearing heels at work is a big challenge for me,” she admits.
When it comes to movies, Jean prefers children’s movies. Why? “They are so creative and heartwarming,” she says. Can’t argue with that!
